If you are a love walking and want to see nature in its rawest form then there are fewer places in Switzerland as great as Ascona. The town is located in an idyllic spot between the picturesque, hilly area of Monte Verità and the blue waters of Lake Maggiore with the old town and the lakeside promenade that are particularly quaint and picture-worthy. Begin the tour of the area with a dip at Lido Ascona which is located right on the lake, including low, medium and tall diving boards for those who want to show off their diving skills. If you want to stay active, there are two beach volleyball courts, many ping pong tables and there is also the chance to rent stand up paddling equipment.
You can head to one of the two bars with its Caribbean-inspired ambience and delicious cocktails on offer. Furthermore you can take a walk around Monte Verità, which is a wonderful hilly area that is easily accessible on foot from the town center and is a special place to visit whether you are looking to get some exercise or simply be surrounded by nature. Several walking paths lead visitors around and offer the chance to take in beautiful views of the old town from above. The tea house is the main specialty here and the park and the Casa Anatta Museum are other interesting spots on the hill which you can simply enjoy with the silence. This place is located on the lush and beautiful Monte Verità above Ascona and offers a museum which is home to a permanent exhibition about Monte Verità itself. The place offers insights in to the life of the 1902, group of various artists who lived here for 18 years following a strict vegetarian diet.
The last place on the list for the tour of this place can be the Stunning views at Madonna Del Sasso which is also perched on a hill not far from Ascona. The Madonna Del Sasso boasts incredible views over Lake Maggiore and is reached only after taking a steep path or with some relief using the Orselina cable car. This church is magnificent and the work of art, embellished with incredible frescos can make you feel lost. It’s also home to the Museo Casa del Padre, a must-see for those who want to admire some of the finest sacred art in the area and absorb the divine embellishment. The Friars’ Library which is a part of this churches grand history holds in itself a gigantic collection of 14,000 volumes.
