This place is nature’s perfection and the blueish white ice moving like slow river under your feet has been centuries in making. You are surrounded by high valley's which transform the Aletsch Valley into a wonderland. If you are in search for a reasonably challenging hike, then a trek to this great glacier is just for you. There are 72 kms of walking trails crisscrossing the breathtaking natural landscape of Valais. It is recommended to start the hike early to savor the fresh morning air and have the live view of the panoramic vista of the 4000m peaks. You can enjoy trekking in these high mountain passes which can be accessed from many locations accessible from the town of Brig. The trek can start from Belalp - Riederalp or Bettmeralp or Fiesch or from Belwald - Fiesch. You can enjoy a traditional lunch from the many mountain-top restaurants that dot this area. Do not forget to visit the split larch-wood shingles houses which are the traditional house roofing, and the various roof styles are a special art.

1) Belalp - Riederalp (This trek does not go to the base of the glacier)
11.5 km, approx 5 hours. Moderate to Difficult
If travelling by car, then park at Brig and take a Post-Auto bus to Belalp. Start your hike from Belalp and follow the route to Riederalp. Cross the glacier at the Belalp-Riederalp suspension bridge. From Riederalp take the cable car down to Morel and train back to Brig.
2) Fiesch (Trek to the base of the glacier)
Start your journey from Train stop - Fiesch. Take cable car to Fiescheralp. Start your hike towards Märjelensee lake by crossing the newly opened tunnel across the mountain to take you directly towards the Glacier. Fiescheralp is a car free resort and can be reached only by the tramway. The valley station is in Fiesch at 1,061 metres (3,481 ft). From Fiescheralp another aerial tramway leads to the Eggishorn station at 2,869 metres (9,413 ft), which lies on the Fiescherhorli summit, near the Eggishorn.
3) Bettmeralp (Panorama of the glacier)
Drive till Betten Talstation and then take the Bettmeralp cable car. From the top head towards Bettmerhorn. The trek is all the way up to Bettmerhorn, about 5 km.
Really good hiking shoes, jacket and cap. Walking sticks if required.
Water and a bite to eat is highly recommended. The hike from Belalp to Riederalp does not have any facilities.
Do not throw cigarette stubs in the forest. It is a punishable offence.
