This artificial lake is an infrastructure project undertaken by the rulers of Jodhpur to provide water for the region. Spread over 0.84 km2, it is one of the largest artificial lakes in Rajasthan and home to some of the rare migratory birds. Experience lost history as you stand midst the area having palaces and gardens of two rulers of Jodhpur. Both were submerged to make the lake, which was further developed by the PHED, and a Dak Bungalow was constructed which is something that just cannot be missed. Hire a boat here and enjoy the cool mist of the late afternoon and evening breeze. The lake and gardens adjoining it is an ideal picnic spot for tourists with this lake offers a breathtaking view of the sunset. The lake which is also known as Pratap Sagar was an open area for wild bears which served as a secured hunting place for the royal members which can be observed in the historical displays of the spot. The lake is deep, and swimming is certainly not encouraged here. The gardens are as mesmerizing as the lake is and offers some pristine spots for relaxation. The local vendors sell some lip smacking snacks just near the lake premises which are a must try.
By car: Situated just outside north-east of Jodhpur. Best time to visit is near to sundown.
Swimming is not recommended. Boating is available, however they wait for 10 people to gather before setting off.
