Ägerisee or Lake Aegeri is a glacial lake in the Canton of Zug. This lake is a hidden gem very near the city of Zug. A round trip is about 15 Kilometes, which can be done on a bicycle or by walking.
Swim: There are many places where it is possible to have a quick dip in the lake. The Lido Unterägeri on the lake has a beach, diving platforms, water slides and a nice lawn for sunbathing. It is located at the north end of the lake, near the town of Unterägeri.
Picnic: A quiet corner on the lake is situated near the village of Nas, there is parking available and a nice lawn with a grilling place just on the shore.
Fishing: The lake is a paradise for fishermen. Here you can find pike, perch, trout and other fresh water fishers. Fishing licenses are issued by the municipalities of Ober- and Unterägeri and the camping site in Unterägeri. More information can be found here.
A piece of history trivia is that the battle of Morgarten took place on the southeastern bank of Lake Aegeri in 1315. The Morgarten memorial (Morgartendenkmal) commemorates this fight. It is located on the South-East section of the lake.
Public Transport: There are no trains reaching the lake. The best way is take a bus from Zug railway station to Unterägeri.
Car: Route number 9 passes through the shores of the lake. It is a picturesque drive through the villages and town of lower Alps. Beware!! The route is very popular with bicyclists, motorbikes and vintage cars.
Walking shoes or sandals. Protect yourself from the sun, there are very few shaded areas around the route.
