Rapperswil springs out like a town from fairy tale with all the magic and wonder. This tour explores the medieval alleys, houses, and gardens of this picturesque town. Start your trip from the railway station (also close to parking P1, P2). Cross the railway under bridge and in a few meters find this small but busy “Kinderzoo”. Families with kids will enjoy this petting zoo, it houses animals that travel with the Swiss national circus, Knie. Walk towards the lake and take the wooden bridge – apparently, the longest wooden bridge in Switzerland. Circle back to the city center, enjoy the promenade and take a turn towards the rose gardens. From here, the stairs to the castle lead to a 360-degree view of old city and Zurich Lake. Come back to the starting point via “Schloss Treppe Steil” and end the trip with a cup of coffee from the many café’s at the lake-side promenade.
By Train: Rapperswil is well connected with Trains from Zurich.
By Car: If driving, follow the autobahn from Zurich till Pfaffikon and take exit Rapperswil. Travel along the lake via Zurich's Gold-Coast (Meilen - Stäfa). There are plenty of designated parking places (marked as P1, P2, P3, P4, P5) in Rapperswil city center.
The main sights of Rapperswil are its rose gardens, Rapperswil Castle, the reconstructed wooden bridge to Hurden with its bridge chapel Heilig Hüsli located at Seedamm, the Kapuzinerkloster (Capuchin's monastery), the remains of the Middle Ages fortifications located on Lake Zürich, Lindenhof hill, Herrenberg, Engelplatz, Hauptplatz, Bühlerallee and Fischmarktplatz at Rapperswil harbour.
